Christmas stocking

Another Christmas stocking to donate … cheery colors, and happy prints designed by Taylor and sewn by me. Thankful for all I have, giving a little back.

Open Mind

Another thought from MinEmergent this week of giving thanks that I want to ponder…

I’m offering a deeper sense of what it means to be alert. There is a telling difference between the sharp line of a laser ray and the wash of sunlight over a field, between the sharpness of a mind in crisis and the wash and warmth of an open heart. When we need it most, it is nearly impossible to see ourselves with compassion from the slit of a narrowed mind all tensed for battle.

Hands open with grace and gratitude

Been helping Taylor photograph her portfolio, so I’ve not been doing much fiber for the last week, but I started a sampler “wisdom by bits” that is waiting for finishing. Thought I had the layout, stitched the top, and the ensemble was still bugging me. I’m listening to my voices, so mom helped do a little fixing, and I have a little more to go. So for now, just a “snippet”!

Found this drawing as we were working on Taylor’s portfolio – it is not mine, but one of Taylor’s sermon musings – she called it “hands open with grace and gratitude” which seems particularly appropriate as Thanksgiving approaches.

Christmas stocking too

Another quilt for the U of M holiday stocking project. Extra squares from the table runner project just seemed to have a happy holiday feel. I painted the red branch fabric to add a more festive feel in a branch fabric.

This project reminded me that even when you are trying to get something done, you should listen to your voices. I wondered if the white fabric was heavy enough to have a good feel, wasn’t sure, and used it anyway. I ended up having to add another layer of heavier fabric as a compromise because it wasn’t very good at all. The back still looks a little muddy because the gold fabric of the lining shows through, but there was no real solution except to completely start over on the body of the stocking. Next time, listen to those voices!

9 Patch continued

Working on this design of 3 9-patches some more – I’m enjoying the free nature of the fabrics and wishing I had more of them. Time for a dyeing and printing session!
