Dance in the rain

Life is not about waiting for the storms to pass…
It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.

Stopped at the light on my way home I was behind a Subaru covered with bumper stickers. You know how your bumper stickers mirror who you are – well this must have been a hopeful person. The top center bumper sticker was the phrase above.

I want to dance in the rain!

Soaked in love

Wisdom from friends at minEmergent – to remind me…

God is love. He created us in love, and to love Him and other people. If we miss the mark of love, He forgives us, and renews our lives in love. If we need help loving Him or others, He enables us by filling our lives with His love. One day, He will make a new Heaven and Earth where there is nothing but love forever.

Stand firm

Sometimes I feel pulled from so many directions that I cannot figure out what to do next.

When this happens,  when I remember, I find it helpful to stop and remind myself who I am (I child of God, beloved, given a path to follow on this earth) and what my values are. (things like walking softly on this earth, treating those around me always with love and respect and kindness, always finding joy in myself and where I am, …)

When I stand firm in know who I am in God and who I am called to be, I can stand firm amidst the challenges swirling around me, and embrace them with joy and grace.

Unfinished

The sunrises have been beautiful this week. Yesterday, looking down the Huron river towards the dam the sun washed the clouds with peach highlights, the mist drifted through the trees, and the river echoed back the soft watercolor hues.

My journal entry isn’t quite there yet. A good reminder that life is a process. Good to know where you are going. Better yet to be present and enjoy each and every moment of the journey.

God, may I be present in the moments of this week. May I drink in the beauty and life around me. May I breath out this life to those around me.

Hope

This journal entry was going to be a colorful sunrise full of text and color. Hmmm … not sure what happened…. a reminder that life and art go in unexpected directions. I can choose to stress the little things or take a walk and count my blessings.

Live

Life takes us in unexpected directions. This summer I jumped back into engineering research full time. It is fun and scary all at the same time. I want to thrive! But, the challenges are real and some days are hard. This is my reminder to LIVE.

May I suggest

I want the hope of this song to be mine today…..

May I suggest to you

May I suggest this is the best part of your life
May I suggest
This time is blessed for you
This time is blessed and shining almost blinding bright
Just turn your head
And you’ll begin to see
The thousand reasons that were just beyond your sight
The reasons why
Why I suggest to you
Why I suggest this is the best part of your life
There is a world
That’s been addressed to you
Addressed to you, intended only for your eyes
A secret world
Like a treasure chest to you
Of private scenes and brilliant dreams that mesmerise
A lover’s trusting smile
A tiny baby’s hands
The million stars that fill the turning sky at night
Oh I suggest
Oh I suggest to you
Oh I suggest this is the best part of your life
There is a hope
That’s been expressed in you
The hope of seven generations, maybe more
And this is the faith
That they invest in you
It’s that you’ll do one better than was done before
Inside you know
Inside you understand
Inside you know what’s yours to finally set right
And I suggest
And I suggest to you
And I suggest this is the best part of your life
This is a song
Comes from the west to you
Comes from the west, comes from the slowly setting sun
With a request
With a request of you
To see how very short the endless days will run
And when they’re gone
And when the dark descends
Oh we’d give anything for one more hour of light
And I suggest this is the best part of your life

Breathing

A healthy lung changes as it breathes in and out. Consider this plot of corresponding inhale and exhale CT scan values in the lung. Elongation means nice deep breathing – to enjoy the smell of cut grass or the tang of the new blacktop or the smoky drift of burning leaves.

Catalysts for life

There are so many draining things we can focus on during the day: how we appear to others, how much others do or don’t respect us, how we can get people to do what we want. But once we become aware of the negative impact of these areas of focus, we can get clear on – even excited about – who we really want to be . . . We can shift our focus toward qualities like mercy, gentleness, courage, and the many others that bring true joy in our lives and in the lives of others.
