Study break collage

A few weeks ago before Taylor’s winter break, we needed a change of pace, so I got out some fun paper, scissors, and glue and Taylor and I enjoyed some collage work. Good to work out the kinks in your brain after heavy-duty studying. Somehow creating small pieces always relaxes me. Got around to sewing them today while Taylor is in Rome. (You can see her influence in the vibrant greens and aqua paired with coral.) A little foretaste of spring.

I think these are destined to be part of greeting cards … here is the second one. The first is in the mail!

A thought for the new year – LIVE

As a new year begins, my prayer is that I can live to the full in each moment. I want to embrace the variety and beauty of life. I want to be present in each moment, a living testament to God’s grace. The colors of this collage are lively to reflect the life I want to live. Blessings on this new year. Shalom.

With love

Staying with our theme of recyled gift wrapping, we had a lot of fun today with tags, brown paper bags, magazine scraps, and Christmas tree twine. Joy to the world!

Peace at Christmas

2012 has been about freeing my creative spirit, partly by going back to basics. I collaged fabric scraps from a vibrant palette along with free motion quilting to create this tree art, embracing the process simply because I enjoy it.
Decided to go free-form this year. Every Christmas card is different!
Taylor’s choir ended the AASO Holiday Pops concert with the song “Let there be peace on earth.” This is my prayer for the new year, and that it can begin within me.

My piece of joy

Been enjoying putting together these cards. Went to the Kelsey museum over lunch and enjoyed a display of glass from from 100 BC to 100 CE. One decorative piece was gray with charcoal, cream, yellow, and red circles and I was reminded just how much life cycles. And yet, we each add our own piece, a piece only we can add, to the whole.

A project finished!

One of my goals I decided on as I cleaned the studio this fall was to “finish projects” — I find it too easy to be too hard on myself and never finish anything, but then I don’t learn either. I want to learn! and grow! So, I finished the cards with the fun circles, “Joy is contagious”, and yes, from a very fun recycled stamp, Buzz Lightyear does make an appearance.

Joy is contagious

This summer I made a bunch of paper circles from fun, wacky papers (Buzz Lightyear may or may not have been included in this project – To infinity and beyond!) Cleaning up the studio, I decided I should make them into happy cards …. here is the first. A reminder to myself that joy is catching, and a way to share it with those around me.

Going green cards

Even the studio has been warm, so I’m enjoying making composites for cards, but the sewing not so much. Finally with less heat, the studio has been much cooler. My “going green” cards are fun to put together … I’m enjoying thinking about my ex officio green cargo pants and miscellaneous thread getting a new lease on life!

Small blessings

I like working on small projects with my hands; I find it relaxing and a way to create thoughtful space. With Kels and Taylor gone I’ve had some quiet time to think, and create.

If I’m made in the image of God, what part of this image needs drawing out? How can I let go of the mold I am in? What kinds of shaping need to happen in my life? How can I listen for God’s voice?

These small creations will eventually become cards that can become blessings for others. How can I bless someone near to me tomorrow?

Light

My paper journal is going slowly, but this is the second layer on a page in progress.  Light shines through even when we don’t feel or see it. Times of contemplation center us in our faith.
